My children are so happy here! The project based learning, and arts-integrated curriculum go beyond the usual cookie cutter curriculum offered in most schools. My kids are so excited about the projects they work on- the in-depth real learning that occurs is truly child centered- it`s not a culture of do this but don`t ask questions- questions, ideas are encouraged!

Terrible PTA. Parents are not encouraged to participate. High student/teacher ratio.

This school community is wonderful, and parent involvement has always been at the center of Indianola. Our PTO is extraordinary in supporting classroom teachers in gaining resources, planning events for our community and school to come together, and working to include all families in our school. We have worked diligently to keep student teacher ratios at a minimum since 1975. Our largest classes are at 27 students, some are as low as 17, depending on grade. Our program works best with lower class sizes, due to it's project based learning, and arts-integrated curriculum. We strive to teach community and individual responsibility, to support the students in taking ownership over their own education and learning environments. Indianola in a child-centered learning approach, and best started in the lower grades, to build a foundation into the upper grades. Until recently, there was no lottery placement for students beyond 2nd grade. Now the district is back filling upper grades with students and it has given way to new challenges in finding ways to integrate new students into this highly informal and specialized program.
